ABOUT TOPS

A COMMITMENT TO
COMMUNITY AND EXCELLENCE

Welcome to TOPS K-8, where academic excellence meets a steadfast commitment to social justice! At TOPS, we pride ourselves on creating a dynamic learning environment that not only fosters intellectual growth but also cultivates a deep sense of equity and inclusivity. Our students consistently achieve high academic standards, driven by a curriculum that challenges and inspires. Beyond the classroom, we are dedicated to empowering our students to become thoughtful, compassionate leaders who advocate for justice and change. Join us at TOPS K-8, where education goes hand-in-hand with making a difference.

HIGHLIGHTED PROGRAMS

instructional assistants

Since 2018, Friends of TOPS has provided funding for six hourly assistants in K-2 classrooms, aiding teachers by reducing the student-to-teacher ratio and enhancing the educational standards for our students.

EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING

Friends of TOPS supports field trips and overnight experiences for TOPS students that support learning. Examples have included:

  • Planting the Seeds is a longstanding program at TOPS K-8 designed to foster community, promote awareness, and enhance the curriculum. Eighth graders spend 3 days out of school engaging in service projects across the city.

  • The first-grade field trip to MOHAI involved hands-on artifact exploration, allowing students to understand the everyday tasks of different workers and how these jobs interact within a community, historically and presently.

  • Scholarships provided for two Science Environmental Camps catering to 7th and 8th graders, offering activities like caving at Mt. St. Helens for three days or studying Marine Biology at Deception Pass.

music

Friends of TOPS is thrilled to provide a program that provides all K-5 students with access to music, with the possibility for them to progress to middle school music - band, orchestra, and guitar.  Throughout the year, our band and orchestras perform in numerous concerts which draw attendance from parents and the wider community, including events such as the Auction and Taste of Tops (this year featuring 3rd grade recorder performances!).

FRIENDS OF TOPS PROVIDES GRANTS THROUGHOUT THE SCHOOL YEAR. Please e-mail news@topsk8.org for more information.
